CNC History

Michael Zlotnitsky founded CNC in 1986, out of the basement of his modest Rockville, MD home, as a part time business. CNC's first products were foreign periodicals, delivered to embassies and offices, and the now defunct free weekly, The Express Newspaper.

As Mr. Zlotnitsky’s three sons joined the company in the early 90’s (see also The Founders page),  the company grew its business to include single-copy newspaper service.  The initial niche of the company was to handle local or locally printed newspapers, such as Times Community Newspapers, Journal and Gazette.  Later it added Washington Times, Baltimore Sun, and USA Today.

In 1996, the company established a sub-contracting relationship with industry giant Aramark, becoming the de facto distributor of most single-copy newspapers sold at major retail outlets, as well as some magazines.  After the exit of Aramark from the single copy newspaper distribution trade in 1998, CNC developed a substantial single copy newspaper operation of its own, becoming one of the leading agency distributors in the market.  Shortly afterwards, the company also launched a home delivery division, which, among others, handled all of the Baltimore Sun's home subscribers in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, MD.

In 1997, CNC also launched its now highly-regarded magazine and book division, which in addition to Washington, DC, now covers 30 states.  The company is intent to continue and develop this division - which has grown by leaps and bounds each year of its existence - while keeping to a strategy of pursuing retailers in the drug, gift and convenience class of trade, as well as regional chains and independent retailers in all classes of trade.

In 2003, CNC merged its newspaper operation with National News Agency to form a new company, NewsOne Newspaper Distribution Services, LLC., which created one of the nation's largest newspaper wholesale operation.

The company is run today by the sons of the founder, who retired in 2005.  Tal J. Zlotnitsky is the company's Chief Executive Officer.  Sean Zlotnitsky is the company's President.
